How to Play & Trivia
Hear the theme under the virtuosity
Published as the final work in Paganini’s 24 Caprices, Op. 1, this A-minor caprice begins with a concise theme and develops it through eleven variations and a closing flourish. The violin writing moves between quick runs, arpeggios, double stops, high-register passages, a pizzicato episode and trills. Each variation changes the technique while keeping the underlying theme recognizable.
Practice the variations
Listen to the theme once, then compare one variation at a time. Slow playback to follow the fast runs and separate single notes from double stops. The violin part spans G3 to F7, so the note view helps track the leaps between low and high positions. This source MIDI contains 1,593 notes and lasts about 2 minutes 12 seconds.
